Julianne Hough House: The Hollywood Hills Home She Sold for $6.35 Million

In this article

Julianne Hough owned one Los Angeles house for eleven years, and the numbers around it tell a clear story. She bought it in January 2014 for $1.94 million. She renovated it with the designer Jake Arnold. She listed it in the spring of 2025 at $7,950,000. It closed on 1 August 2025 for $6.35 million, some $1.6 million below what she asked.

By then she had not lived in it for three years. Her divorce from the former ice hockey player Brooks Laich was finalised in February 2022, and she moved from Los Angeles to New York that April. The sale simply closed a chapter that had already ended.

This guide covers the house, the renovation, the gap between the asking price and the sale price, and where she lives now.

Who is Julianne Hough?

Julianne Hough is an American dancer, actress, and television personality who first became widely known as a professional on Dancing with the Stars, winning the competition twice as a pro. She has since returned to the show as a judge and, from 2023, as co-host alongside Alfonso Ribeiro. Her film work includes Rock of Ages and Safe Haven, and her brother Derek Hough is also a dancer and a fixture of the same programme.

She married Brooks Laich in July 2017. The couple separated in May 2020, and the divorce was finalised in February 2022. That timeline maps directly onto the property record: the house was bought before the marriage, shared during it, left after it ended, and sold three years later.

The Hollywood Hills house

The house she bought in 2014 was built in 1936, in a Mediterranean idiom, and is modest by celebrity standards: three bedrooms and four bathrooms across 3,000 square feet on three levels, with a stone fireplace, a pool and a covered terrace with a wood-burning pizza oven.

What is not modest is the land. It sits on close to half an acre, which in that part of the hills, where lots are narrow and steep, is genuinely unusual and accounts for a good deal of the value. Buyers at that price point in the Hollywood Hills are frequently paying for the position and the plot rather than the floor area.

She kept it for eleven years, which is a long hold, and she worked on it substantially rather than leaving it as bought. The interiors were reworked by Jake Arnold, a designer with a strong following among people in the entertainment industry. It was the first project of his career, and the finished rooms put him on the cover of Better Homes & Gardens, which is why the house was covered as a design story as well as a celebrity one when it went to market.

The sale, and the gap in the numbers

The house was listed in spring 2025 at $7,950,000, a figure some outlets rounded to $8 million. It sold on 1 August 2025 for $6.35 million.

That is a reduction of about 20 per cent from the asking price, which is worth sitting with. Against the roughly $2 million she paid in 2014, the sale still represents a very large gain across eleven years, and Los Angeles appreciated substantially over that period. But the cost of the Jake Arnold renovation has never been published, and a full designer interior on a 3,000-square-foot house is a significant number. The real return is therefore lower than the difference between $2 million and $6.35 million suggests, by an amount nobody outside the transaction can calculate.

One factor runs the other way. In March 2022, as she prepared to move east, the house was offered for rent at $40,000 a month. Whether it was let, and for how long, has not been reported, but any rent collected during her three years away would offset part of that renovation bill.

The gap between ask and close also reflects timing. She listed in a Los Angeles market that had been unsettled for some time, and a house at that price with three bedrooms appeals to a narrower group of buyers than the price band alone implies.

Where does Julianne Hough live now?

New York City.

The move is well documented. She relocated from Los Angeles to New York in April 2022, two months after her divorce was finalised, to make her Broadway debut in the comedy POTUS at the Shubert Theatre, and rented a West Village townhouse reported at around $18,000 a month. Everything since has been consistent with her being based on the East Coast: she listed the Los Angeles house three years after leaving it and sold it in 2025.

There is one obvious complication, and it deserves an honest answer. Dancing with the Stars is produced in Los Angeles, and she has continued to work on it: its thirty-fifth season, which she co-hosts, premiered on 15 September 2026. That means she spends much of each autumn in California for production. It does not mean she lives there, and she no longer owns property in the state.

What has not been established is where exactly she is living now that the Los Angeles sale has closed. She has not publicly identified a new home, and no purchase in New York or anywhere else has been reported. Whether she is still renting or has bought is unknown, and this article will not guess. Other performers have made the same Los Angeles to New York move and kept the details private, including Amanda Seyfried, who left California for New York State and only listed her Los Angeles house years afterwards.

What the record shows

Hough’s property history is unusually tidy for someone famous since her early twenties. One house, bought young, held for over a decade, improved carefully, and sold once she had genuinely left the city. There is no portfolio, no string of flips, and no second home that has ever been documented.

New York, so far, has produced a rental rather than a purchase, at least as far as the public record goes. For someone whose work still requires regular trips to Los Angeles, that may be a deliberate choice rather than a temporary one. The city has absorbed plenty of entertainers who rent for years before committing, as the property histories of longer-established New Yorkers such as Blake Lively show by contrast.
