Dominique Jackson House: The Pose Star’s Orange County House Hunt and Her Longtime NYC Apartment

By Daniel Harper

In this article

Dominique Jackson, the model and actress who played Elektra Abundance on FX’s Pose, has never had a celebrity mansion on public record. Her story so far is about two homes: a New York City apartment she said she held onto for roughly 20 years, and the house she went looking for in Orange County, New York, on HGTV’s House Hunters in 2021.

On that episode, she and her fiance and manager, Edwin Torres, toured three homes outside the city on a budget that ET put at $400,000 to $650,000. Neither the show’s publicity nor any major outlet has confirmed which house they chose or whether a purchase closed, so treat any online claim of a specific Dominique Jackson house address or price with caution.

From Tobago to Baltimore: Where She Grew Up

Jackson was born on March 20, 1975, in Scarborough, the main town on the island of Tobago in Trinidad and Tobago, and was raised there by her grandmother.

At 15 she came to the United States to live with her mother in Baltimore, and she finished high school in Maryland. After coming out as trans, she experienced homelessness, a period she has spoken about openly in interviews. It was in Baltimore in 1993 that she was introduced to the ballroom scene.

The ballroom world gave her a different kind of house. In ballroom culture, a “house” is a chosen family led by a mother, and Jackson moved through the houses of Revlon and Allure before settling in the House of Sinclair in New York City, according to her Wikipedia biography. That same world is the setting of Pose, which ran from 2018 to 2021 and made her a household name as the imperious House of Abundance mother, Elektra.

Two Decades in One New York Apartment

By the time Pose launched, Jackson was a committed New Yorker. In a January 2019 interview with Windy City Times, she said she had lived in New York for 20 years and described the struggle to stay in the same apartment for that whole stretch, adding that Pose had made her feel more secure. She did not name the neighborhood, and no outlet has reported it.

Hollywood did not lure her west. She spent about two months in Los Angeles while filming the Oxygen series Strut (2016), which earned her a GLAAD Media Award nomination, and told the paper she decided against moving there.

Her household changed in those years too. According to Wikipedia, she married Al Jackson in 2016 and the couple separated in late 2018; by the 2021 House Hunters episode she was engaged to Torres, and Instinct Magazine reported that the two were leaving their New York City apartment to buy a home together.

The search aired as “Glam vs. Land in New York.” Prime Video’s listing dates the episode to May 31, 2021, while ET promoted the premiere for Tuesday, June 1, at 10 p.m. Orange County is in the Hudson Valley, north of New York City.

The couple wanted room to host their large extended families, but they disagreed on almost everything else. Jackson pictured a two-story Colonial with a pool and a spa-style bathroom, and called both “musts.” Torres wanted an open-concept farmhouse on acreage, with enough land to raise chickens and pigs, according to Instinct Magazine. When he proposed keeping the budget at $400,000, her answer was a flat “You crazy.”

The episode mattered to her beyond the house itself. “As a Black trans woman, I thought it was impossible to own a home,” she said, explaining that ownership only came onto her radar once she realized she could afford it with her partner.

Where Does Dominique Jackson Live Now?

As of the latest reports, there is no confirmed public record of where she lives today. The House Hunters publicity named the region and the budget, but not the towns, the three listings or the final pick, and no real estate outlet has reported a closed sale in her or Torres’s name.

About those “Dominique Jackson mansion” claims

Pages that give a specific house, price or address for her do not cite a property record or a named outlet. The only documented figures are the $400,000 to $650,000 search budget and the Orange County location from the 2021 episode.

What is on record is the arc: a teenager who later went through homelessness, two decades holding down one New York apartment, and a televised search for a first house with a pool and land in the Hudson Valley.
