Goldie Hawn House: The Colorado Log Home They Have Kept for 40 Years

By Daniel Harper

In this article

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell own several houses, and the one that matters to them is a log cabin. They moved into a large log lodge on a ranch at Old Snowmass, Colorado, a little over forty years ago, and Russell has said plainly that it is his favourite place they own. They have kept it through the entirety of their relationship.

The arrangement there is unusual and worth knowing: the couple has never married, and they hold the Colorado land as two adjoining properties in separate names, with Hawn owning a 2,700-square-foot guesthouse and Russell the 6,500-square-foot main lodge, across roughly 70 acres in total.

This guide covers that property, the Pacific Palisades estate they sold in 2017 and which Anthony Hopkins bought in 2026, and where they actually live.

Who is Goldie Hawn?

Goldie Hawn is an American actress and producer, born in 1945, who won an Academy Award for C.S. Lewis: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 1969 and went on to Private Benjamin, Overboard, Death Becomes Her, and The First Wives Club. She also founded the MindUP education foundation.

She has been with Kurt Russell since 1983, and the two have never married, a decision they have both discussed publicly and without regret. Her children include Oliver and Kate Hudson, and she and Russell have a son, Wyatt.

That marital status is directly relevant to the property record, because it explains why their Colorado holdings sit in two separate names rather than one joint title.

The Colorado log home

Russell has described the Old Snowmass property as a large, beautiful log cabin lodge on a ranch that the couple moved into a little over forty years ago. He has said repeatedly that it is his favourite of everything they own.

The reason is personal rather than financial. He grew up in a cabin in Maine built by his grandparents, and has said that he and Hawn share a passion for log homes, and that he never got the Maine one out of his system.

According to a 2016 report in the Denver Post, the couple holds roughly 70 acres between two adjoining properties in the Aspen and Snowmass area. Hawn owns the 2,700-square-foot guesthouse; Russell owns the 6,500-square-foot, eight-bedroom main residence. Russell has described the routine there: waking to the mountain behind the house, going down to the barn to saddle a horse, and sitting in front of the living-room fireplace.

Forty years in one place is a very long hold by any standard, and it is by some distance the longest tenure in either of their portfolios. The Aspen and Snowmass area has drawn a steady stream of entertainment money over the same period, some of which is documented in the account of Kevin Costner’s property portfolio.

The Pacific Palisades house

The couple bought in the Riviera neighbourhood of Pacific Palisades in 2004, a renovated 1951 house of 6,389 square feet with five bedrooms, five bathrooms and an attached two-car garage.

They sold it in 2017 for $6.9 million. That timing turned out to matter enormously, though not for any reason they could have anticipated.

In January 2025, the Palisades Fire destroyed thousands of structures across the neighbourhood. Hawn’s family were among those forced to evacuate. The house they had sold eight years earlier survived, and in late 2025 it returned to the market at $13.5 million. In January 2026, it was bought for $13 million by Anthony Hopkins, whose own Pacific Palisades home had burned down in that fire.

The sequence is a stark illustration of what the fire did to the neighbourhood’s market: a house that changed hands at $6.9 million in 2017 sold for nearly double that in 2026, in large part because the supply of intact Palisades houses had collapsed. Other surviving properties are covered in the account of Dennis Tito’s Pacific Palisades estate.

Where does Goldie Hawn live now?

Between several homes, with Old Snowmass as the emotional centre and Los Angeles as the working one.

Reporting on the couple describes them dividing their time between Los Angeles, the Palm Desert area of California, Old Snowmass and New York. They have also been photographed inspecting construction on a house in Brentwood, which suggests a Los Angeles build after the Palisades sale, though no purchase price or completion has been documented in a source worth citing.

What is firmly established is the Colorado property. They have held it for over forty years; Russell has spoken about it repeatedly and specifically, and there is no report of a sale or listing. Everything else in the portfolio has moved; that has not.

What is not documented is which Los Angeles property they currently occupy, what it cost, or whether the Palm Desert house is still theirs. Those details have not been published, and this article does not estimate them.

What the record shows

Hawn and Russell have made one long-term decision and several short-term ones. The Palisades house was held for thirteen years and sold; the Palm Springs winter house is described as a former home; there is evidently activity in Brentwood. The Colorado ranch has been there since the early 1980s.

For a couple who have spent five decades in an industry centred on Los Angeles, keeping the log cabin longer than anything else, and holding it in two separate names because they never married, is about as clear a statement of priorities as a property record can make.
