Top 10 Most Expensive Celebrity Homes, Ranked by What They Paid

In this article

Most “top 10 celebrity homes” lists rank houses by how impressive they look, or by estimates nobody can check. This one uses a single, checkable measure: the price a famous entertainer or athlete actually paid for one home, as reported from the sale. Beyoncé and Jay-Z are at the top twice. Eight of the ten purchases were made between 2021 and 2025, and two of the buyers have already sold at a loss or are trying to.

Three rules keep the list honest. Every figure is a closed purchase price, not an asking price or a “worth” estimate.

Each entry is a single property, not a portfolio total. And billionaire business owners, whose purchases would take every top spot, are listed separately at the end.

10 Oprah Winfrey Montecito about $50M 2001

1. Beyoncé and Jay-Z: Malibu, About $200 Million (2023)

In 2023, the Carters paid a reported $200 million in cash for a concrete house by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando on an eight-acre bluff above Paradise Cove. It was the most expensive home sale in California’s history at the time. A $210 million Malibu sale by the Oakley founder James Jannard passed it in June 2024, so the Carters hold the record among entertainers, not overall.

2. Beyoncé and Jay-Z: Bel Air, $88 Million (2017)

Their first Los Angeles house came after a three-year search. The 30,000 sq ft Bel Air compound by the architect Paul McClean had been listed as high as $135 million. The Carters bought it through trusts for $88 million, the biggest sale in Los Angeles County that year.

3. Drake: Beverly Crest, $75 Million (2022)

Drake bought Robbie Williams’s 20-acre estate above Beverly Hills in 2022. He listed it at $88 million the following year and cut the price to about $79 million by mid-2025. It was still unsold in May 2026. His “YOLO Estate” in Hidden Hills had sold in 2022 for about $23 million across three parcels.

4. Kim Kardashian: Malibu, $70.4 Million (2022)

In September 2022, Kim Kardashian bought Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber’s former beachfront estate in an off-market deal. Its seller, the retired hedge fund manager Adam Weiss, had listed it that spring at $99.5 million after buying it from the couple in 2018 for $45 million.

5. The Weeknd: Bel Air, $70 Million (2021)

The Weeknd bought a Bel Air mansion overlooking the Bel-Air Country Club in 2021, off-market. The sellers, the Dutch TV figure Reinout Oerlemans and his wife, had paid $21.4 million for the property in 2015.

6. Paris Hilton and Carter Reum: Beverly Park, $63.1 Million (2025)

After their Malibu house burned in January 2025, the couple paid $63.1 million for the compound Mark Wahlberg had built in gated Beverly Park. Wahlberg had sold it in February 2023 for $55 million after first asking $87.5 million. We cover the house in our article on Paris Hilton’s house.

7. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck: Beverly Crest, $60.85 Million (2023)

The couple closed on a 38,000 sq ft estate of about five acres, with a 12-car garage and a boxing ring, in May 2023. After they separated, it was listed at $68 million in July 2024, then cut to $52 million. It was pulled and relisted more than once, most recently in May 2026 at $49.995 million, nearly $11 million below what they paid. Affleck has since bought on his own; see our article on Ben Affleck’s house.

8. Kanye West: Malibu, $57.3 Million (2021)

Kanye West’s purchase is the clearest example of a high price paid and lost. In 2021, he paid $57.3 million in cash for a Tadao Ando beach house. He then stripped out its windows, doors, and finishes. The gutted shell was listed at $53 million, cut to $39 million, and sold in August 2024 for $21 million. That was a loss of about $36 million before counting the cost of the demolition.

9. Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo: Montecito, $52 Million (2022)

The couple bought a Georgian-style house of about 13,000 sq ft, built in 2009 for Rob Lowe, on roughly 3.4 acres in an off-market deal in 2022. They listed it at $65 million in July 2025 and sold it that October for a reported $60 million. That made them one of the few entries on this list to sell at a gain.

10. Oprah Winfrey: Montecito, About $50 Million (2001)

Oprah Winfrey paid about $50 million for The Promised Land in 2001, then 42 acres. She is the only buyer here from before 2017. Adjusted for inflation, that price would sit near the top of the list. She has added parcels since, making the estate larger than the one she bought.

Just Outside the Top 10

  • Kendrick Lamar: $42 million combined in 2024 for two adjoining Brentwood parcels. That is two lots, which is why it is not ranked.
  • Dr. Dre: $40 million in 2014 for Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen’s Brentwood house.
  • LeBron James: $36.75 million in October 2020 for a Beverly Hills estate, covered in our Beverly Hills guide.

If business owners count as celebrities, every place above changes. In February 2020, Jeff Bezos paid $165 million to David Geffen for the Warner Estate in Beverly Hills, then a Los Angeles record. In 2023 and 2024, he spent about $237 million on three properties on Miami’s Indian Creek Island. In 2025, Eric Schmidt paid $110 million for Aaron Spelling’s former Holmby Hills chateau, The Manor.

The list is recent and almost all in Southern California. All ten are in Los Angeles County or Montecito, and most of the purchases came in the pandemic-era rush of 2021 to 2023. The results since then are mixed. Levine sold for more, but Lopez and Affleck, Drake, and, most dramatically, West have all found that at this level the first price paid is no guarantee of what the next buyer will pay.
