Natalie Portman’s home base is now Paris. As of the latest reports, she lives there with her two children, Aleph and Amalia, and in April 2026 French outlets reported that she bought a roughly 550-square-meter private mansion in the city’s 7th arrondissement for about €15.2 million. Before that, her best-documented property was a Barton Myers-designed retreat in Montecito, California, which she and then-husband Benjamin Millepied bought for $6.5 million in 2017 and sold for $8 million about four and a half years later. For most of the 2010s, the family’s day-to-day address was a half-acre property in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The Paris Mansion Near the Champ-de-Mars
The newest home on record is a hôtel particulier, the French term for a private townhouse-mansion, on the edge of the Champ-de-Mars gardens, a short walk from the Eiffel Tower. Purepeople reported the purchase on April 20, 2026, crediting AD Magazine for the details.
According to that report, the building dates to 1912 and once served as an embassy. Businessman Yves Vatelot bought it in the 1990s and renovated it fully. The reported price was about €15.2 million for roughly 550 square meters, which works out to a little under 5,900 square feet. Neither outlet published a room count, so any bedroom figures you see elsewhere are guesses.
The timing lines up with her personal news. In a Harper’s Bazaar interview dated April 17, 2026, she announced she was expecting a child with French producer Tanguy Destable, her third child overall. The same French coverage says she put her California property up for sale before buying in Paris, but no listing or sale record for a Los Angeles home has surfaced in the reporting we reviewed.
Why She Settled in Paris
Paris is not a new city for her. The family first moved there when Millepied became director of dance at the Paris Opera Ballet in the mid-2010s, then returned to Los Angeles after he left the post. After the couple’s divorce, filed in July 2023 and finalized in February 2024, she made Paris her main base.
She has been open about the reason. In a May 2025 cover story reported by People and syndicated by IANS, she said Parisians are “very good at privacy,” and called being described as discreet the biggest compliment she can get. A 2024 WSJ Magazine interview took place at her book-lined Paris apartment, her home in the city before the 2026 mansion purchase was reported.
Inside the Natalie Portman House in Montecito
In June 2017, the couple paid $6.5 million for a modernist house on about 10.4 acres in Montecito, the Santa Barbara County enclave also home to Oprah Winfrey’s Promised Land estate. W Magazine and TODAY reported the purchase at the time and described it as a family getaway rather than a main residence.
The Montecito retreat at a glance
Santa Barbara architect Barton Myers designed the house, built in 2008, in steel, glass and concrete. It sits into a hillside that slopes toward the Pacific. W Magazine listed floor-to-ceiling windows with ocean views, a pool, a rock garden, and an outdoor entertaining area with a fireplace, several patios and an outdoor kitchen and bar under a retractable roof. Glass garage-style doors open the main living space to the views, and the grounds are planted with oak, palm and eucalyptus trees.
Room counts for the Natalie Portman house in Montecito vary slightly by outlet. TODAY and W Magazine reported four bedrooms and five bathrooms, while some later write-ups say four and a half baths.
The $8 Million Montecito Sale
The couple sold the property off-market, with no public listing. Dirt reported that the buyer was David Kalt, the Chicago-based tech entrepreneur who co-founded the online brokerage OptionsXpress. Coverage of the sale appeared in February 2022, and property-deal aggregators put the closing in early February of that year.
The $8 million sale price was $1.5 million above what they paid, a gain of roughly 23% before costs.

The Los Feliz Years
Coverage of the 2017 Montecito purchase consistently described the family’s primary residence as a smaller, half-acre property in Los Feliz, the hillside neighborhood on the east side of Los Angeles where Kristen Stewart’s former mansion also sits. TODAY added that Angelina Jolie was a neighbor. Portman has said in interviews that she lived “on the east side” of the city.
No reputable outlet has published a purchase price, size or sale record for this home. Several net-worth and celebrity-wealth sites state that she owns a Los Angeles house “valued at around $6.75 million,” but none cites a deed, listing or real estate report. Treat that figure as unverified.
About that $6.75 million figure
The widely repeated value for her Los Angeles house traces back to net-worth sites with no sourcing. The only documented prices in her real estate history are the $6.5 million Montecito purchase, the $8 million Montecito sale and the reported €15.2 million Paris purchase.
