Where Do Celebrities Live? Luxury Homes and Private Neighborhoods

In this article

Where do celebrities live? Mostly in Los Angeles: Beverly Hills, Bel Air, the Hollywood Hills and Malibu have more famous residents than anywhere else, with New York, Miami and Nashville close behind. The property records show a wider map than that, though. Famous buyers gather in a small number of places, and each one solves a different problem: a guard gate, room for horses, distance from the paparazzi, or a smaller tax bill.

This guide covers 26 celebrity homes, grouped by the kind of place they are in, from gated Los Angeles enclaves to beach houses and working farms. Each price is a documented purchase or sale price unless it is marked as an asking price or an estimate. We name towns and communities, never street addresses.

Beverly Hills and the Mulholland Ridge

The hills above Beverly Hills are still the default for old Hollywood and new music money. The lots are big, the canyon views are wide, and the studios are close. At this price level, though, a house can sit on the market for years.

Jack Nicholson: Mulholland Drive

Jack Nicholson has lived on the Mulholland Ridge since the late 1960s.

Jack Nicholson has lived on the Mulholland ridge since the late 1960s, one of the longest stays of any star in Los Angeles. Marlon Brando was his neighbour for decades. After Brando died in 2004, Nicholson bought his friend’s house for a price reported between $5 million and $6.5 million. He was told the building had a serious mould problem, so he had it demolished rather than restored. He has never listed his compound or opened it to a magazine.

Drake: Beverly Crest

Drake paid $75 million for the Beverly Crest estate in 2022.

In 2022, Drake paid $75 million for Robbie Williams’s 20-acre estate in Beverly Crest. He listed it at $88 million the following year, and price cuts had brought it to about $79 million by mid-2025. It was still unsold in May 2026. It replaced his Hidden Hills “YOLO Estate”, which he sold in 2022 for about $23 million across three parcels.

Bel Air and the Hollywood Hills

Bel Air, west of Beverly Hills, is the most private of the city’s old estate neighbourhoods, with winding roads, gated entrances off Sunset Boulevard and lots measured in acres. The Hollywood Hills, further east, are the opposite: smaller, steeper lots with city views, and pockets such as the Bird Streets above Sunset that have drawn actors and musicians for decades.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z: Bel Air and Malibu

Beyoncé and Jay-Z paid $88 million for a Bel Air estate in 2017. In 2023 they paid $200 million in cash for a concrete house in Malibu, designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, on a bluff above Paradise Cove. It was the most expensive home sale in California’s history at the time, until a Malibu sale in 2024 passed it.

Jennifer Aniston: Bel Air

Jennifer Aniston bought her Bel Air house in 2011 for about $21 million. It was designed by the architect A. Quincy Jones and finished in 1965, and she spent years restoring it rather than replacing it. More than a decade later it is still her home, which is unusual in a neighbourhood where houses often change hands within a few years.

Pacific Palisades and Brentwood: After the 2025 Fires

West of Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades and Brentwood were long the quieter choice for families in the film business. On 7 January 2025, the Palisades Fire changed that. It burned more than 23,000 acres and destroyed thousands of buildings before it was contained on 31 January, and several well-known residents lost their homes.

Billy Crystal: Pacific Palisades

Billy Crystal and his wife Janice had lived in their Pacific Palisades house since 1979, and raised their children and grandchildren there. It was destroyed in the fire. Crystal later described stepping onto the grounds for the first time afterwards and falling to his knees.

Jim Carrey: Brentwood

Jim Carrey bought his two-acre Brentwood estate in 1994 for $3.8 million and lived there for 30 years. He first listed it in 2023 at $28.9 million. A deal agreed in December 2024 fell through, and the house finally sold in August 2025 for $17 million. The flames did not reach it.

Hidden Hills and Calabasas: The Kardashian-Jenner Enclave

Hidden Hills, at the western edge of the San Fernando Valley, is a fully gated city with riding trails and no through traffic. That mix of privacy and space has made it the base for most of the Kardashian-Jenner family. Neighbouring Calabasas has gated communities of its own, and the two names are almost always mentioned together.

Kris Jenner: A Family Compound

Kris Jenner paid $20 million for this Hidden Hills house in 2021.

In 2021, Kris Jenner paid $20 million for a newly built house of about 16,500 sq ft. At the same time, Khloé Kardashian paid $17 million for the house next door. The two homes share a 3.4-acre site, linked by paths rather than divided by fences. Her earlier house, the one viewers knew from Keeping Up with the Kardashians, was later put up for sale at $13.5 million.

Kylie Jenner: Hidden Hills and Holmby Hills

Kylie Jenner's Cape Cod-style house in Hidden Hills sold in 2026
Kylie Jenner sold this Hidden Hills house for $15.3 million in September 2026.

On 11 September 2026, Kylie Jenner sold her Cape Cod-style house in Hidden Hills for $15.3 million. That is $5 million under the first asking price, but $3.25 million more than she paid for it in 2016. The house she is keeping is a custom Italian-style compound a few streets away, on a five-acre lot she bought for $15 million in 2020. Her Holmby Hills compound is still listed at $38.5 million.

Montecito: Where Hollywood Goes for Space

About ninety minutes up the coast from Los Angeles, Montecito has acreage, privacy, and ocean views that are almost impossible to put together inside the city. It has become the usual choice for stars who want out of LA without leaving California.

Oprah Winfrey: The Promised Land

Oprah Winfrey bought The Promised Land in 2001.

Oprah Winfrey bought The Promised Land in 2001 for about $50 million, when it was a 42-acre estate. She has since added neighbouring parcels, and it now runs to more than 60 acres around a Georgian-style main house. She has also sold off a four-acre section for about $17.1 million, so the estate has shrunk as well as grown.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: The Chateau at Riven Rock

The Sussexes paid $14.65 million for the estate in June 2020.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex bought their Montecito estate in June 2020 for $14.65 million. It covers about 7.4 acres, and the 14,500 sq ft main house has nine bedrooms. Newsweek has reported estimates close to $29 million today. That figure is an estimate, not a sale, and the house has never been listed.

Kendall Jenner: An Equestrian Estate

Kendall Jenner bought the six-acre estate in February 2025.

Kendall Jenner has ridden and show-jumped since childhood. She paid about $22.8 million in February 2025 for a six-acre compound of historic adobe buildings with stables and an outdoor riding arena, right next to Oprah’s estate. She still owns the Beverly Hills villa she bought from Charlie Sheen in 2017 for $8.55 million.

Beach Houses: Malibu, Miami, Palm Beach and Rhode Island

Oceanfront land is the one thing money cannot make more of. That is why the beach houses carry some of the biggest price tags in this guide, and why their owners hold on to them for so long. In Miami, the most famous addresses are islands: Star Island, Fisher Island and Indian Creek, each reached by a single causeway, bridge or ferry.

Pierce Brosnan: Malibu

Pierce Brosnan’s Malibu house took about a decade to build.

In 2000, Pierce Brosnan and his wife Keely paid $7.35 million, across two purchases, for oceanfront land on the Broad Beach stretch of Malibu. They then spent about a decade building a Thai-inspired house there, influenced by his time filming Tomorrow Never Dies in Thailand. They listed it in 2020 at $100 million. These days the couple spends most of their time on the North Shore of Kauai.

Howard Stern: Palm Beach

Howard Stern paid $52 million for the Palm Beach estate in 2013.

In 2013, Howard Stern paid $52 million for a 3.25-acre oceanfront estate on the North End of Palm Beach. It was the town’s most expensive home sale that year. The property has about 39,000 sq ft of living space in total, and Stern reportedly spent around $10 million more on renovations after buying it.

Lionel Messi: Fort Lauderdale

Lionel Messi bought the house for $10.75 million in September 2023.

Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami in 2023, and by that September he had paid $10.75 million for a waterfront house in Bay Colony, a guard-gated community in Fort Lauderdale. The house is about 10,500 sq ft, with around 170 feet of water frontage and two boat docks. He also owns two condominiums in Sunny Isles Beach that he bought years before he played in the US.

Jeff Bezos: Indian Creek, Miami

In 2023 and 2024, Jeff Bezos bought three waterfront properties on Indian Creek Island, a guarded island north of Miami Beach that is nicknamed the “Billionaire Bunker.” The three purchases came to about $237 million. Indian Creek has only a few dozen homes and its own police force, which is exactly what buyers at this level are paying for.

Taylor Swift: Watch Hill, Rhode Island

Taylor Swift paid $17.75 million for the Watch Hill house in 2013.

Taylor Swift paid $17.75 million in cash in 2013 for an oceanfront mansion in Watch Hill. The house had belonged to the heiress Rebekah Harkness, whose story Swift later told in the song “The Last Great American Dynasty.” It is one of seven properties she owns, along with a Tribeca compound, a Beverly Hills estate, and two Nashville homes.

New York City: Tribeca and the West Village

New York stars tend to buy downtown. Tribeca’s converted warehouses and the West Village’s 19th-century townhouses give them space and a front door of their own, which the co-op buildings of the Upper East Side, with their strict approval boards, often do not.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick: West Village

In 2016, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick paid $34.5 million for two neighbouring townhouses in the West Village, planning to combine them into a single house of about 13,900 sq ft. The pair had been listed at $44 million. Taylor Swift’s Tribeca compound, mentioned above, is the downtown alternative: three connected units bought for close to $48 million.

The Hamptons and the East Coast

For stars based in New York, the Hamptons on Long Island’s East End are the summer standard: shingle-style houses, tall hedges and a two-hour drive from Manhattan.

Gwyneth Paltrow: Amagansett

Gwyneth Paltrow has owned the Amagansett house since 2006.

In 2006, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin paid $5.4 million for a house of about 7,000 sq ft in Amagansett, one of the quieter Hamptons villages. She still owns it almost twenty years later. In 2018, she married Brad Falchuk in the back garden.

Richard Gere: North Haven

Richard Gere sold Strongheart Manor to Matt Lauer in 2016.

Between 2005 and 2008, Richard Gere bought three parcels in North Haven for a combined $11.3 million and put together a bayfront estate called Strongheart Manor. He listed it at $65 million in 2013. It sold to Matt Lauer in 2016 for $36.5 million. At the end of 2024, Gere sold his Connecticut house and moved his family to Madrid, although the couple have since talked about spending more time in the US again.

Country Estates and Farms

Not every star wants a city view. Country music in particular keeps its biggest names close to the land, and the farmhouse has become a status symbol in its own right.

Dolly Parton: Brentwood, Tennessee

Dolly Parton and Carl Dean built their Brentwood home in the 1970s.

In 1972, Dolly Parton and Carl Dean bought land in Brentwood, south of Nashville, and built a house there with help from her family. She has said they bought a big plot on purpose, so tour buses could not see in. It was their home for more than fifty years, until Dean died in 2025.

Morgan Wallen: A Tennessee Farm

Rural Tennessee farmland similar to Morgan Wallen's farm
Morgan Wallen bought about 1700 acres of Tennessee land in 2023.

In 2021, Morgan Wallen sold his Nashville duplex for $835,000. Two years later, Billboard reported that he and his booking agent Austin Neal had bought about 1,700 acres of rural Tennessee land. Each move has taken him further from Music Row, and closer to the countryside he sings about.

George Strait: Texas Hill Country

For about twenty years, George Strait lived in a custom adobe house on 12.2 acres inside San Antonio’s gated Dominion community. It was finished in 1997. In 2017, he and his wife Norma moved out to the Boerne area. The Dominion house sold in November 2021 after four years on the market, and its last asking price was $6.9 million.

David Beckham: The Cotswolds

The Beckhams bought the Cotswolds farmhouse in December 2016.

In December 2016, David and Victoria Beckham paid £6.15 million for a converted farmhouse near Great Tew in the Cotswolds. They use it for weekends and summers. Their main base is a Grade II-listed house in Holland Park, London. In 2024, they added a $72.3 million waterfront estate in Miami Beach.

Leaving California: Texas and Nevada

Since 2020, a noticeable group of stars has swapped Los Angeles for Texas and Nevada. Neither state has an income tax, and both offer far more land for the money.

Joe Rogan: Lake Austin

Joe Rogan paid $14.4 million for the Lake Austin estate in 2020.

In 2020, Joe Rogan paid $14.4 million in an off-market deal for a lakefront estate of about 10,900 sq ft near Austin. The house holds the studio where his podcast is recorded, which makes it a workplace as well as a home. He sold the Bell Canyon house he had owned in Los Angeles County since 2003 for $3.45 million.

Matthew McConaughey: Austin

Matthew McConaughey moved to Austin years before it became a magnet for Californians. He married Camila Alves at their Austin home in June 2012, over a three-day celebration. Many listings credit the house to the architect Addison Mizner. That cannot be true, because Mizner died in 1933.

Mark Wahlberg: Las Vegas

Mark Wahlberg's house in the Summit Club Las Vegas
Mark Wahlberg moved to Las Vegas after selling his Beverly Park estate.

Mark Wahlberg listed his 30,500 sq ft Beverly Park compound at $87.5 million. It sold in February 2023 for $55 million. He moved to the Summit Club in Summerlin, Las Vegas, and dropped his plan for a 38,000 sq ft custom house there. He now lives in a house of about 8,400 sq ft, around a quarter the size of the one he left. The Beverly Park estate sold again in 2025, for $63.1 million, to Paris Hilton and Carter Reum, who had lost their Malibu home in the January fires.

What the Map Shows

Three patterns run through all 26 homes. The first is that gates matter more than views. Hidden Hills, Bay Colony and the Dominion all trade on controlled access. The second is that the newer moves are about land, not floor space. Kendall Jenner bought stables, Morgan Wallen bought a farm, and Mark Wahlberg moved to a smaller house. The third is that an asking price is not a value. Drake, Brosnan, and Gere all learned that the market decides what a trophy home is worth. One more pattern is harder to see: many of these purchases were made through an LLC or a trust, which keeps the buyer’s name off the public record. Messi bought through an LLC, and the Sussexes bought through a trust.
