Tyson Beckford, the model who became the face of Polo Ralph Lauren in the 1990s, lives in Miami. He told Fantastic Man in 2024 that he had been living in Miami, Florida, “for the last ten years.” Before that he was based in New Jersey, and he grew up between Jamaica and Rochester, New York.

What no reliable outlet has reported is a property deal. No purchase price, listing or sale has been documented by the real estate press, so any dollar figure attached to a “Tyson Beckford house” online should be treated as a guess. This piece sticks to what he and credible publications have actually said.

Miami: His Home Base Since the Mid-2010s

Counting back from the 2024 interview puts his move to South Florida around 2014. He framed the choice in terms of climate and roots rather than real estate, calling himself “more of an island boy than a city boy” and saying Miami gives him “the best of both worlds.”

Geography matters too. In a July 2022 interview with the Sunday Gleaner, he pointed out that Jamaica is “only an hour and [a] half on the plane” from Miami, and said he was able to spend roughly six months a year moving back and forth between the two.

The details most house articles lead with, such as the neighborhood, the size of the home or whether he owns or rents, have not been published by any credible source. The small glimpses he has offered are domestic ones: in the same Fantastic Man questionnaire he mentioned keeping an aloe vera plant next to the bathroom sink, which he uses as a face mask, a habit he connects to Caribbean tradition.

The New Jersey Years

Before Florida, Beckford lived across the Hudson from Manhattan. A Patch report from April 2012, covering a talk he gave to theater and film students in Newark, described him as “a product of the Bronx, New York who now resides in New Jersey.” His Wikipedia entry lists him as a former resident of Edgewater and West New York, two Hudson County towns on the Palisades facing the Manhattan skyline.

The most specific thing ever reported about the inside of one of his homes dates from the same period. When he was inducted into the Bronx Walk of Fame in April 2012, Norwood News reported that he owned between 300 and 500 pairs of sneakers he had never worn, and that an entire room in his house was dedicated to storing them. The article did not say where that house was.

Where He Grew Up: The Bronx, Kingston and Rochester

He was born in the Bronx on December 19, 1970, to a Jamaican mother, Hillary Dixon Hall, and a Panamanian father of Chinese-Jamaican descent, Lloyd Beckford. The family moved to Jamaica when he was an infant; he told Fantastic Man he was six months old. According to Wikipedia, they spent about seven years there before moving to Rochester, New York, where he graduated from Pittsford Mendon High School.

Kingston is still the family anchor. “My father and brother, family and friends still live in Kingston; it’s home,” he told the Gleaner in 2022.

A Planned Return to Jamaica

His long-term plan points south. “I eventually want to move back when I am finished in the States,” he told the Gleaner. He has not said where on the island he would settle, and no purchase or build in Jamaica has been reported. If he does go, he would join a list of public figures with homes there, such as Diplo, who owns a brutalist estate in Portland.

Miami has drawn plenty of other famous residents, including David Beckham, whose homes span London, the Cotswolds and Miami.
